Dakota and Elle Fanning may be two of the most talented teenagers in Hollywood but the famous sisters have admitted that they squabble like all siblings. The twosome, who have teamed up for a joint photo=shoot in the December issue of W magazine, discuss their relationship in the accompanying interview with the US publication . "She is a nice older sister," says 13-year-old Elle. "But it's not like we always get along."
However Elle says that she misses her older sister now that she has left home to begin her first year at New York University. "Now that she's going to college, it's different. I went into her room at home in California, and all her clothes were gone! Her closet was empty!"
"I don't get to go in there and steal clothes anymore. It's really strange. It's sort of like she's off making a movie, but this time she's not coming back."Elle admits that she has found it difficult living in her Dakota's shadow, but says that her role alongside Stephen Dorff in 'Somewhere' has changed the way people see her. "After 'Somewhere' came out, people started to recognise me more. Whenever I was walking down the street, they'd be like, 'Oh, wow - are you Elle Fanning?'" Elle says "Before 'Somewhere', they asked me if I was Dakota Fanning, because we looked alike, and I'd say, 'No, I'm her younger sister'. And they'd say, 'Oh, okay'. But now I think they are starting to realise I'm my own person."
Meanwhile Dakota, 17, who shot to fame with her role in the movie 'I Am Sam' in 2001, says that she has no qualms about putting her successful acting career on hold to attend University. "You hear people say, ‘Oh when I was in high school’ or ‘When I was in college,’” she says.
“That defines a lot of who people are, and I didn’t want to miss out on that.”The sister's mother, Joy Fanning, has moved in with Dakota to help her with the transition. “Because I’m only 17, my mum is staying with me in my apartment for a little bit,” Dakota says. “She’s teaching me how to wash clothes and such. But I’m so excited to be on my own.”
